We hired David Silverman as a consultant because we were on a tight
budget and decided to implement the design ourselves. He gave us excellent ideas
for transforming a large muddy yard into a gorgeous Japanese-style garden. He
shared design ideas, plant and stone recommendations, and great insider resources
with us to guide us in our project. Years later, we're still enjoying our beautiful
backyard!

Japanese Expertise
In addition to his wide-ranging landscaping expertise, Mr. Silverman is a specialist
in Japanese-style gardens, architecture, and interior design. Inspired by the
only authentic 16th-century Japanese-style house in this country—in
Philadelphia's
Fairmount Park—he decided
to build his own. His home was featured by the Tokyo Broadcasting Corporation,
a major Japanese television network, and in the Washington Post Home section
in 1993:
"The house is low and white with broad eaves upswept like a pagoda's
and separated from the garden by a wraparound deck. On a recent summer afternoon,
colorful banners, each adorned with a portrait of a geisha, were billowing like
sails in the gentle breeze in front of the house. Indoors, each room has translucent
shojis as well as sliding glass doors—requisite in this climate—that open to
the deck and garden with the pond as its focus."
Whatever you envision, Mr. Silverman's extensive experience, design intuition, and hands-on horticultural expertise will ensure that the perffect landscape will be within reach.
