We have been using the services of Five Seasons
Landscaping for many years now and all we can say is, "he's fantastic!" David
Silverman’s
designs, along with the timely and skillful implementation, have yielded a visual
treat every time we walk out of our home. The dry streambed he added to our backyard
has done nothing less than transform the ordinary into the spectacular. Sitting
on the deck is a real “trip” for the senses.

:: GREEN LANDSCAPING ::
Why go green?
1) Go green and get a rebate! Montgomery County is currently offering a rebate of up to $1,200—no small sum—to install a rain garden on your property. Get more info on our Rain Gardens page>>
2) Creating an eco-friendly landscape design provides:
- much-needed habitats for native flora and fauna, which are losing ground to increased development.
- an important food source for birds. Dogwoods, hollies, nandinas, and echinacea feed a variety of birds, from migrating species to the ones that need to stick it out through the winter.
- a food source and key pollination vector for bees and butterflies. The viburnum, rhododendrons, azaleas, lilies, irises, rudbeckia, cherry trees, and other flowering plants we work with help maintain the pollination cycle and the threatened honeybee population, while adding to the fragrance and color of your yard.
3) Replacing lawn with planted areas generates further environmental benefits:
- reducing stormwater runoff, which improves the health of our waterways and the tributaries emptying into the Chesapeake Bay.
- reducing lawnmower use. A single lawnmower can produce as much pollution in one hour as eight new cars traveling at 55 miles per hour. Some people hate mowing so much that they’ve replaced all their grass with beautifully landscaped trees, shrubs, and groundcover.
4) Strategic placement of shade trees and shrubs:
- reduces your cooling costs in the summer,
- greens the atmosphere with their leafy canopies,
- and provides safe haven for nesting and migrating birds, as well as other wildlife.
5) In addition to these environmental benefits, green landscaping also enhances your personal environment, by creating a private sanctuary that screens off noise and neighbors to let you retreat into a custom-designed, natural space. No matter how large or small your yard, you can create an eco-friendly garden of your own.
6) Using green products further reduces your environment footprint. We use products such as:
- Hollytone natural fertilizer
- Leafgro/Compro
- Mosquito dunks
- Safer soap
- Horticultural oil
- Organic pesticides only when necessary
7) Your yard can become a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat. (http://www.nwf.org/backyard/ ) By posting this certification in your yard, you can encourage neighbors to adopt greener practices as well, benefiting the entire neighborhood.
